The Rospa Test

The Rospa test will be taken once the associates tutors are happy the individual is ready. The test will be conducted by an approved examiner, usually serving or retired police riders. The result will be a graded pass at Bronze, Silver or Gold standard. The Gold standard is considered the highest civilian qualification available. The test fee is £54.00inc VAT ( £47.00 if under 26 years of age).

 

The candidate will be tested on many aspects of their training, including:

 

Use of Controls:

 

Steering--This should be smooth, accurate and controlled.

 

Clutch--Your use of the clutch should show smoothness, delicacy and timing with the gear change lever.

 

Gears--Your ability to match your gear to road speeds and conditions and engine revs.

 

Brakes--Smooth control with correct balance of front/rear brakes for safe braking.

 

Throttle--Smooth operation and careful matching of throttle opening and speed to situations.

 

General Performance:

 

Smoothness--Careful balance of the controls and observations to show planning of manouvres.

 

System--A good understanding and use of the system of motorcycle control.

 

Positioning--How you position your machine for safety, stability and view on the approach to hazards

 

Cornering--Safety, observation and the correct lines for both rural and urban areas.

 

Signals--Used correctly, in good time and as required to warn or assist other road users.

 

Speed--Use of speeds up to maximum limits, where appropriate and safe. A brisk ride, with good progres where possible.

 

Overtaking--Although a possible hazard, they are neccesary feature for making progress. Their demonstration where appropriate and safe will be expected, within the speed limits.

 

General Ability:

 

Deportment--Natural posture and control of machine, and attitude to other road users.

 

Vehicle Sympathy--Mechanical sympathy and consideration for your machine.

 

Judging Distance--ability to judge distances to other vehicles and speeds and use this information for your own acceleration or braking.

 

Motorways and Dual-carriageways--particular situations and hazards encountered on these specific roads, and how you deal with them.

 

Knowledge--Check of your knowledge of the Highway Code, Motorcycle Roadcraft and basic motorcycle mechanics by a some questions from your examiner.
